People often ask me, "when is the best time to work with a coach?"
If you're like most people, including me, you will put off working with a coach until you find yourself in a more dire situation. It may sound obvious but the truth is: waiting until things get worse only prolongs the challenges you're facing.
In this blog post, we'll explore three signs that indicate it's time to work with a coach. These signs can serve as powerful indicators that you're ready to embark on a transformative journey of self-discovery and growth.
1. You feel stuck or lost
When what used to work for you no longer serves you in your current role, situation, or environment, it's natural to feel disconnected and unsure. This disconnect can create conflicts within yourself and impact those around you. Perhaps you're undergoing a significant transformation, such as a career shift or major life change, and you're feeling overwhelmed and isolated. In many cases, you may not even be clear about your true aspirations and values.
Feeling stuck and facing unresolved challenges is an ideal time to seek the guidance of a coach. They can provide the space and structure for reflection, helping you uncover your values, identify where your beliefs and actions diverge, and guide you towards the clarity you seek.
2. Your attempts to change have failed
Mindset and behavior change can be incredibly challenging. Often, we operate on autopilot, unaware that our own mental narratives are sabotaging our progress. When your efforts to change haven't yielded the desired results, it's easy to view them as failures, reinforcing the belief that your current situation is unchangeable. However, this is precisely the moment to dig deeper and examine the underlying stories and competing commitments that are holding you back. The sooner you address these narratives, the better equipped you'll be to rewrite them and create the life you truly desire.
3. You don't have enough time
During times of significant challenge, it's common to feel overwhelmed and believe that you simply don't have the time to invest in coaching. Paradoxically, this mindset only perpetuates the cycle of busyness and prevents you from taking the first step towards working with a coach. Many clients have shared this struggle during their initial discovery sessions, only to discover that coaching actually helps them create more time and clarity. If you find yourself grappling with time management or struggling to delegate, it may be a sign that you need to establish healthier boundaries and improve your energy management. Don't make the same mistake I did by delaying the support of a coach when setting boundaries could have alleviated unnecessary pain and helped navigate significant transitions.
The question that helped me and others is...
what's stopping you right now?
